How much does a wedding DJ cost? Pricing guide and what makes it vary
It's the question that gets searched the most before hiring a wedding DJ, and for good reason: the prices you see online range from €300 to over €1,500, and that huge gap is confusing. There's no single rate because no two weddings are the same, but there are some very clear factors that make a quote go up or down. Here they are, so you know what to ask and avoid surprises.
Hours of service
Hiring music just for the dinner and dancing (5-6 hours) is not the same as covering everything from the ceremony to the end of the night, or adding an extra hour on the spot. Every extra hour has a cost, because it means more equipment running and more work time for the DJ.
Number of guests and size of the venue
A garden for 200 people needs much more sound power (and more speakers spread around) than a closed hall for 60. That changes the equipment needed, and therefore the budget.
Ceremony separate from the reception
If the civil or religious ceremony is held somewhere other than the reception, both spaces need sound (sometimes with duplicated equipment or a move in between), which usually makes the service more expensive.
Extras: crazy hour, CO2, cold sparks, confetti
These add-ons (hats and glasses, CO2 cannons, cold sparks, confetti...) aren't usually included by default in a basic service: they're added depending on what the couple wants, and each one has its own cost depending on the equipment and setup it requires.
Lighting and venue setup
A closed hall with tricky acoustics, or an outdoor space with no power outlet nearby, may need more equipment (generator, more cabling, extra lighting) than a venue already set up for events.
Time of year and day of the week
As with almost everything in the wedding industry, high season (May to September, and especially Saturdays) tends to have more demand than a winter weekend or a weekday wedding.
Working alone or with a team
A DJ who personally handles the sound, the lighting and the set (as I do) has a different cost structure than a company that subcontracts several people for the same event. Neither option is inherently better, but it's something worth asking about.
So, how much does it cost?
With all this in mind, the only honest way to give you a number is by knowing your specific wedding: date, venue, hours, guests and which extras interest you. That's why I don't publish a fixed rate on the website — so the quote matches exactly what you need, no more and no less.
Tell me these details about your wedding and I'll put together a personalized quote, with no obligation.
Want to talk about your event?
Tell me the date, the venue and what you need, and I'll put together a tailored proposal. No fixed rates.
