Music for first communions: how to liven up a party with kids and adults at once

First Communions · 2026-10-18

Musically, a first communion is one of the most different events I do: at the same party there are small children, teenage cousins and the adults of the family, and each group expects something different from the music. The challenge is not leaving anyone out.

The meal: music for the adults

During the meal, I usually play a calm background aimed mainly at the adults, while the children are already usually playing or moving around the venue. There's no need to force anything yet.

The kids' block: time for the little ones

After the meal, I dedicate a clear block to the children: well-known songs, simple and easy-to-follow dances, and musical games like musical chairs or freeze dance. Here the key is participation, not volume.

The teenagers' block

If there are teenage cousins or friends at the party, I usually slip in a block with more current music, the style they listen to, so they don't stay on the sidelines waiting for "their turn to start."

The final stretch: everyone together

Towards the end of the party, once the most intense part for the children has passed (and often some of them have already gone to sleep or settled down), that's when I turn up the energy for the adults, with livelier music to close out the afternoon.

Musical bingo, an extra that fits really well

Musical bingo works especially well at first communions, because it's a game that both children and adults understand, and it brings the whole family together in the same moment, without splitting the party into groups.

Microphones for speeches or thank-yous

If the parents want to say a few words or give a small thank-you, I always provide a quality wireless microphone, so they can be heard clearly throughout the venue without having to shout.

If you're organizing your son's or daughter's first communion, tell me how many children and adults you're expecting, and I'll prepare a music proposal designed so that every age group enjoys it.
