What the "crazy hour" is and what it includes (CO2, cold sparks, confetti...)
The "crazy hour" (hora loca) is one of the moments most requested at weddings and at 40th and 50th birthday parties. The idea is simple: at a specific point in the party, usually once the night is well underway, the energy is pushed to the max with props, effects and the most danceable music.
What it usually includes
- Props: hats, colored glasses, noisemakers, boas, masks and giant balloons that I hand out to the guests.
- Music: a concentrated selection of the most danceable hits, with no pause.
- Visual effects: this is where the extras come in, which can be added depending on the venue and the budget.
The most requested extras
- CO2 cannons: they shoot a spectacular jet of cold fog right over the dance floor. A very powerful effect in photos and video, and they leave no residue at all.
- Cold sparks: columns of sparks that don't burn or produce smoke, widely used for first dances and the crazy hour. They need a certain ceiling height, so the venue needs to be checked beforehand.
- Confetti cannons: to cap off a specific moment, like the first dance or the end of the crazy hour.
- Smoke machine and mirror ball: for a classic nightclub atmosphere.
When does it make sense?
The crazy hour works best once the dance floor is already warmed up, usually between the 1st and 2nd hour of the party. If it's done too early, it loses its punch. I usually suggest the exact moment live, depending on how the night is unfolding.
If you'd like to include a crazy hour, CO2 or cold sparks at your wedding or birthday, mention it when we talk: we'll need to check the venue (ceiling height, indoors or outdoors) to see which effects are viable.
